ETHICS ARE THE BASIS OF OUR FUTURE

Our business has made a long term commitment to the colour industry, as such, we are careful about the health of our employees, our neighbours and our ecology, locally and globally.

During the manufacture of our products care is taken to abide by the local energy and effluent controls, those current and those expected in the future, controls locally and nationally. We have made significant investments into effluent treatment systems and energy efficient manufacturing systems and we work with governments to ensure compliance.

Our products are offered with conformity to international controls, such as registry to TSCA/DSL. We use ETAD approved authorities to evaluate our products to Resolution AP (89) 1. Certificates of conformity can be supplied on a blanket or batch basis for most of our products.

The products identified on this website are REACH registered and Union Colours has begun the process of registering the larger volume items that we sell.

Our business ethics and our attitude to the environment set us apart from our competitors.

Registration Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)

Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006

REACH Background

The European chemicals regulation (REACH) entered into force June 2007. This regulation requires substances manufactured or imported into the EU, including substances in preparations in quantities over one tonne per year, to be registered unless exempt.

There is a transitional period to complete the registration process for existing substances with phased-in deadlines of 2010, 2013 and 2018, depending on the amounts imported and the hazard classification of the substance. To benefit for the phase-in period EU manufactures/ importers had to pre-register existing substances by November 2008.

For preparations each individual substance needs to be registered separately and possibly at different deadlines.

Union Colours

Union Colours supports the objectives of REACH, including protecting human health and the environment . We are committed to full compliance with the REACH requirements in   cooperation with our suppliers and customers.

We have pre-registered all REACH relevant substances that we import into the EU. It is   not our policy to issue pre-registration numbers as the numbers are specific to the registrant and are not verifiable at ECHA, so they cannot be used to prove pre-registration.

No product on our current range contains any substances which are on the current candidate list for inclusion in Annex XIV as a substance of very high concern (SVHC) and which will subsequently be subject to the requirements of authorisation.

We are now embarking on the work required to ensure that the required registrations are put in place in accordance with the appropriate time scales. At this time we fully intend to register all relevant substances that we import however several different factors could influence our final decision whether or not to register an individual substance. We can however confirm that there are no current plans to reformulate or discontinue any products supplied to you and we do not anticipate this situation changing in the near future. If there are changes in our supply plans as a result of REACH, you have our assurances that we will inform you at the earliest possible opportunity and will work with you to minimise the impact of our decision.

Unlike other regulations that use general listings such as EINECS, the registrations under REACH are specific to the individual registrants.

If you would like any further information on REACH or Union Colours REACH activities please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned.
